Rangoli is a colourful and creative expression of Indian famous folk art. The starting point of this art can be traced to the Puranas. Rangoli is usually designed on a floor using different materials such as powdered lime stone, red ochre, dry rice flour, coloured sand, quartz powder, flower petals and coloured rocks on special festive occasion as well as near the entrance of their house to welcome their guests. With that the art of floor painting came to life. In order to make students aware of uses of waste material, and to give them a lesson on reducing waste to save our future, a ' Best out of the waste' competition will be organised as an online event during Universumm.
With the growing increase in wastes in our society from households to industrial wastes, we now require a very innovative approach to get rid of them. Recycling means turning the materials from waste into something new. Glass, paper, plastic, and metals are all commonly recycled items. Recycling and reusing the valuable waste material can result in development of fantastic and usable products. Rather than putting these waste materials into the landfills, various innovative and creative ideas can be put together to being something new and useful. Everyday Wastes such as plastic, glasses, newspapers or electronic are not only waste of limited resources but also are harmful to the environment. This event is to bring such ideas to students and to help them think themselves on such ways of reusing everyday materials that will not only reduce the waste but provide them with useful household products. The idea will not only be of economic and material value for students, but will be helpful in creating environmental consciousness among them that is the need of the hour.
The competition named as BEST OUT OF THE WASTE is clearly describing the meaning of Regard before you Discard.
