This competition is open for all those who love debating on various agendas in front of a mass.
Type of event: Duet

This competition is Bi-lingual and therefore a team comprising of two speakers may speak either in English or in Hindi or even one each: one in Hindi & the other in English.

  • Each team will be given 10 minutes to speak, 5 minutes to each speaker.
  • First speaker has to speak for the motion and the other against.
  • The topic will be given 48 Hours before the commencement of the fest.
  • Speaker exceeding the permissible time limit of 5 minutes shall lead to the disqualification of the entire team.
  • Reading from paper/other resources such as mobile phone/ tabs etc. in any round is not permissible any shall lead to immediate disqualification.
  • The decision of the judges shall be final & binding.

There shall be two Rounds in this competition.
Round 1: Eliminator: Elocution (This round shall decide the top 5 finalist of the competition):
Round 2: Extempore: Finale

Round 1: Elocution
  • The topic for the speech will be given 48 Hours before the commencement of the fest.
  • Speech has to be presented either in English/Hindi only.
  • Time Limit is 5 minutes for each participant. However, the participants may be stopped in between by the judges.
  • Individuals exceeding the permissible time limit of 5 minutes shall be disqualified.
  • A maximum of 8-10 contestants shall qualify to the next round.
Round 2: Extempore
  • Topic shall be given on the spot. However a preparation time of 10 minutes shall be given to each contestants.
  • Language permitted is either English or Hindi only as chosen in Round 1.
  • Participant has to speak on the topic for a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 4 minutes.
  • The decision of the judging panel will be final and binding.
  • Reading from paper/other resources such as mobile phone/ tabs etc. is not permissible any shall lead to immediate disqualification.
  • The winner will be decided by cumulative marks of both the rounds.

Round 1: Spell Bee
Round 2: Vocabulary
This competition shall be organized exclusively in English only.

Round 1: Spell Bee
  • The Spell bee will go in a knock-out procedure.
  • In first phase, all contestants shall be asked 3 spellings; all contestants who shall answer at least 2 correct answers shall qualify to the next phase.
  • In the Second phase, all contestants shall be asked 3 spellings; all contestants who shall answer at least 2 correct answers shall qualify to the next phase.
  • The phases shall be over as soon as we get 8 participants for the next round of Lord of the words.
Round 2: Vocabulary
  • Some words will be given to the participant.
  • The participant will be asked to give the meaning of word asked.
  • If the participant asks for a sentence where the word is used, he can be provided with it (on the discretion of the judges) but he/she will get lesser points on that.

This competition is for those who are passionate in writing & quoting. There are four parts in this competition:
Part 1: Creative Writing
Part 2: Story Writing
Part 3: Nano-Tale Writing
Part 4: Tagline Writing
This competition shall be conducted simultaneously for English & Hindi Category, however shall be judged & awarded separately.
All the parts shall be conducted on the same day and in the same sitting.

Part 1: Creative Writing
  • A creative article is to be written based on few keywords or key sentence or exclamation.
  • Maximum number of words should not exceed 250.
  • Subject of Creative Writing shall be given on the spot.
  • Language has to be either English or Hindi
Part 2: Story Writing
  • Six brief sentences shall be given. Using the 6 sentences at least once in the subject, a short story is to written.
  • Maximum number of words should not exceed 250.
  • The 6 Key sentences shall be given on the spot.
  • Language has to be either English or Hindi
Part 3: Nano-Tale Writing
  • A pair of 15 words shall be given.
  • A contestants has to choose any 5 of the 15 pair of words and generate one NANO-TALE each based on the 5 pair of words chosen.
  • The length of the nano-tale cannot exceed 24 words.
  • The 15 Pairs of words shall be given on the spot.
  • Language can be English or Hindi or even a combination of both.
Part 4: Tagline Writing
  • 10 Products or Situations shall be given to the contestants.
  • A contestant has to chose any 5 out of the 10 product / situation and create a worthy TAGLINE for the same.
  • The length of the nano-tale cannot exceed 12 words.
  • The 10 Pairs of words/situation shall be given on the spot.
  • Language can be English or Hindi or even a combination of both

This competition shall be conducted separately for the following categories:

There are two rounds in this competition:
Round 1: Poetry Writing
Round 2: Poetry Recitation
The winner shall be decided on the combined score of both rounds. Only a limited number of contestants shall be qualified from Round 1 to Round 2.

  • It is an individual event.
  • Poems have to be presented either in English or Hindi only.
  • In first round, participants will be given 45 minutes to write the poem.
  • 5 Topics will be given on the spot for poem writing and participants will have to choose one topic from them.
  • In second round, each participant will have to recite their own poem which he/she has written on the spot. Time Limit is 5 minutes for each participant. However, the participants may be stopped in between by the judges if they find anything which is against the policy.
  • All Decisions by the judges would be considered Final.
  • There should be no vulgarity in the performance of any type, verbal or action.

As the name suggests General quiz is usually and shall be beyond the horizon. However the major emphasis shall be on current affairs & happenings, general knowledge & things that you usually observe around yourself.

  • There will be two rounds in this competition:
    • Written Prelims (eliminator)
    • Mains (Finale)
  • This is a group event and there must be a minimum of two and a maximum of three members in each team in each of the rounds
  • Top 4 or 6 teams from the prelims shall qualify to the main round depending upon the scores in the prelims. In case of tie in the prelims, the qualifying team shall be decided on the basis of maximum correctly answered *marked questions in the prelims.
  • There shall be 15-25 questions in the prelims each carrying 1 mark. There shall be some specific 3-8 *marked questions. There shall be no negative marking for unanswered questions or incorrect answers. Decision in case of incomplete or partially correct answers or spelling mistakes in answers shall lie at the discretion of the quiz master.
  • In case the qualifying team is not present at the time of announcement of prelims results, privilege shall be given to the next team depending on the score and availability. It is therefore mandatory for the all teams to be present at the specified time and venue for the announcements of prelims results.
  • The details of various rounds and their marking scheme of the mains, shall be announced before the start of the mains.
  • The quiz master shall be the only person responsible and decider of the question that can be placed under this quiz. No one else can claim against the domain of the question asked under this category.
  • The decision of the quiz master shall be final and bounding under all circumstances in all rounds.
  • Carrying reading/writing materials, cell phones, tablets, etc. at the venue of the prelims or mains while attending it shall lead to disqualification of the team.
  • Any attempt of the questions answered by your friends/ your college mates or any other resource person during the mains by shouting the answers out, may lead to losing points/losing that particular question or even to disqualification of the team.

event Venue

The various events of UniversuMM 2018 shall be conducted at about 25+ Venues and Locations. The Cultural activities shall be conducted primarily at the Prince's Stage (Sports Complex Ground), the Queen's Stage (Nescafe), the Kings Stage (Cricket Ground) & MMDU Central Auditorium. The Sports Competitions would be conducted at the Sports Complex, Cricket Ground, Volleyball Courts, Basketball Courts, and the Squash Courts. The Literary & technical events shall be conducted at the Seminar & Conference Halls of the Institutions and at various technical arenas.

Accomodation

Shared accommodation in Rooms / Dormitory / Halls shall be provided to all participants from locations other than Ambala, Ambala Cantt. and Yamunagar; free of cost. All accommodation shall be on first registered first served basis. A candidate shall be considered registered once the fee for registration is paid online. Only basic facility such as Mattress, Bed-sheet & Pillow shall be provided. Students are advised to arrange all specific requirements if any, as desired.

Transport Facility

MMDU is well connected from Ambala Cannt. and all nearby cities. However, special buses shall ply from Ambala Cantt. for students who are arriving between 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM on 9th & 10th September 2018. Buses shall be arranged for departure on 12th September 2018, for those students who are leaving after 8:00 PM to Ambala Cantt.
Participants shall also be allowed to ply from and to various locations where University buses ply such as Ambala, Yamuna Nagar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Chandigarh, Patiala, Rajpura, etc. as per University bus schedule and availability of space in it.
