The Judgment writing competition entails to capture the art of decision making in budding lawyers aspiring to join the reputed judicial services and to unfold the dynamic role of the Judges in relation to society.
The judgment writing competition involves a comprehensive approach towards law in terms of theory & implication of law. The legal arguments on facts and situation with legal precedents and reasoning pave way for judgment writing.

THE EVENT SHALL BE ONLINE
Eligibility
  • The submission is open to all law students registered in Graduate/Post Graduate/Ph.D. Course in any Institution/ College/ University.
  • The students can register themselves as a team of 2 or may also seek single registration.
  • All authors must register separately as delegates for the main event.
  • There is no cap for participation from a single institution.
  • The participant may also be registered for other events of UniversuMM, 2018.
Format Guideline
  • Language - The language for writing the judgment shall be in ENGLISH only.
  • Word limit – Maximum of 5000 words (including foot notes).
  • Submissions should be made in MS Word format.
  • Main Text – Times New Roman, font size 12, double spacing, justified, with a margin of an inch on all sides.
  • Footnotes – Times New Roman, font size 10. Substantive footnotes are accepted.
  • Citation Mode – Any uniform method of citation is allowed.

Submission Procedure
  • A cover page stating the name of the competition, the name of your institution and the names of student author, with the signature of student author.
  • The Judgment shall begin on the next page.
  • Do notstate any matter in the judgment (except the cover page) that might reveal your identity or of your institution.
  • All the Judgments must be saved and sent as PDF file. The title of the file must be in the following format MMDU_JWC_ TEAM CODE.
  • The result will be announced on 6th September 2018.
  • All the participants will be given a participation certificate which will be sent to them via Indian Postal Service.
  • The winners will be called to attend the valedictory session and to collect their prize and certificate(s).

Department of Law, Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be University), Mullana-Ambala organizes National Level Paper Presentation Competition“Adapting Law for a Changing World” on 10th September, 2018.

The Sub themes for the paper are:
  • Adoption, Custody and Parentage
  • Independence of Judiciary and Transparency
  • Minority and Human Rights
  • Rape Laws in India
  • Rights of Children

However the sub themes are not restricted to the above mentioned topics, these are inclusive.

Eligibility
  • The submission is open to all students/scholars registered in Graduate /Post Graduate/Ph.D. Course in any Institution/ College/ University.
  • Co-authorship shall be permitted. There can be maximum two co-authors for one paper.
  • All authors must register separately as delegates for the main event.
  • THE STUDENTS MAY ALSO BE REGISTERED AS A PARTICIPANT IN THE EVENT.
  • There is no cap for participation from a single institution.
  • The Paper Presentation Event participant may also be registered for other events of UniversuMM, 2018.
Submission Guidelines
  • The word limit, excluding footnotes, endnotes, references, and bibliography can range between 2500-3000words.
  • An abstract should be written at the beginning, explaining the aims and motives of the paper. Word limit: 150-200 words.
  • Submissions should be made in MS Word format.
  • Main Text – Times New Roman, font size 12, double spacing, justified, with a margin of an inch on all sides.
  • Footnotes – Times New Roman, font size 10. Substantive footnotes are accepted.
  • Citation Mode – Any uniform method of citation is allowed.
  • Each submission must be accompanied with a short description about the author(s). Details of the team members: Name, Department, E-Mail ID, Contact number, Institution name should be sent along with the Paper.
  • The participant shall bring two hard copies of the full paper at time of physical registration on date of event. The abstract of the paper shall reach on or before 27th August, 2018 and the full paper on or before 06th Sep. 2018 at paper.presentation.law@gmail.com
Presentation Guidelines
  • The presentation time is for 7-8minutes and queries for 3-5 minutes for each paper. The question will be asked by panel of judges.
  • The paper can be presented through a PowerPoint presentation which must not contain more than 15 slides.

Department of Law, Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be) University, Mullana-Ambala organizes 1st National Client Counseling Competition on 11th Sep., 2018
The Client Counseling competition addresses fundamental skills necessary for all successful advocates, namely the ability to interview, counsel, and support a client through their legal issue. The Competitors will conduct an initial interview with a person playing the role of the client and then address both the client’s legal and non-legal needs. Students will be called on to explain various aspects of the advocate-client relationship, build rapport, determine client goals, and consider applicable law and options that may be available to the client.

The following rules and regulations shall govern the competition:

TEAM COMPOSITION
  • Each team must consist of two participants only. Teams may not be altered after registration.
  • There is no cap for participation from a single institution.
COMPETITION FORMAT
  • There shall be 2 Rounds of Counseling session. The Preliminary Counseling Session and two teams with highest score will be selected for the Final Counseling Session. Rules given below shall apply to both rounds.
  • Each Counseling Session is divided in to three parts: Consultation, Post-Consultation and Critique

Each team will participate in only one Counseling Session.

CONSULTATION:

The consultation period shall be for 20 minutes. The time period will start from the moment the client enters the chamber.
The time period is meant to be used for interalia consultation with the client during which participants are expected to elicit the relevant information, outline the problem, find the clients expectations and propose a solution or other means of resolving the problem.
During the consultation and post-consultation, the team may use books,notes and other materials.Judges may, in their discretion, penalize teams that allow the interview session to run longer than the stipulated time period.

POST CONSULTATION:

In the post-consultation period the participants may talk to each other loudly so as to be audible to the judges or may indirectly address them in any other manner. The time period for post consultation is 5 minutes. At the completion of the time period of Post-Consultation the judges shall stop the participants or signal them to stop in an obvious manner.

CRITIQUE:

After the completion of the Post-Consultation period the judges may question the participants on matters deliberated upon or mentioned by the participants or the client during the consultation of post-consultation Period. The judges may ask any question which they consider material and questions meant to test the participants understanding of the facts and/or law applicable or applied by the participants in the case. The time period for this session is 3 minutes and the judges may extend it by another 2 minutes at their discretion.

USE OF MATERIALS AND PROPS:

During the consultation and post-consultation, the team may use books, notes, and other materials. The team may also use office props to setup an Office structure, however none of them will be provided by the Host Institution and the participants must bear in mind that NO ELECTRONIC INFORMATION CAN BE USED OR ACCESSED DURING THE COMPETITION (This includes all electronic items like Laptops, Mini Computers, E-Tablets, I-Pads, Cell Phones etc.).

ELIGIBILITY:
  • The Competition is open for students pursuing Three / Five year LL.B. Degree Course from recognized Law College/University in India, subject to fulfillment of the registration formalities.
  • There is no cap for participation from a single institution.
  • The participant may also be registered for other events of UniversuMM, 2018.

DRESS CODE :
The participants shall be in Formals.
  • Female(s): White Shirt, Black Trouser and Black Tie along with Black Blazer or white suit with black dupatta and Black Shoes.
  • Male(s): White Shirt and Black Trouser along with Black Tie, Black Blazer and Black Shoes (Non adherence to dress code shall attract penalty

event Venue

The various events of UniversuMM 2018 shall be conducted at about 25+ Venues and Locations. The Cultural activities shall be conducted primarily at the Prince's Stage (Sports Complex Ground), the Queen's Stage (Nescafe), the Kings Stage (Cricket Ground) & MMDU Central Auditorium. The Sports Competitions would be conducted at the Sports Complex, Cricket Ground, Volleyball Courts, Basketball Courts, and the Squash Courts. The Literary & technical events shall be conducted at the Seminar & Conference Halls of the Institutions and at various technical arenas.

Accomodation

Shared accommodation in Rooms / Dormitory / Halls shall be provided to all participants from locations other than Ambala, Ambala Cantt. and Yamunagar; free of cost. All accommodation shall be on first registered first served basis. A candidate shall be considered registered once the fee for registration is paid online. Only basic facility such as Mattress, Bed-sheet & Pillow shall be provided. Students are advised to arrange all specific requirements if any, as desired.

Transport Facility

MMDU is well connected from Ambala Cannt. and all nearby cities. However, special buses shall ply from Ambala Cantt. for students who are arriving between 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM on 9th & 10th September 2018. Buses shall be arranged for departure on 12th September 2018, for those students who are leaving after 8:00 PM to Ambala Cantt.
Participants shall also be allowed to ply from and to various locations where University buses ply such as Ambala, Yamuna Nagar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Chandigarh, Patiala, Rajpura, etc. as per University bus schedule and availability of space in it.
